Bill Mandell
Shareholder, Pierce & Mandell, PC
William M. Mandell is a shareholder in the Boston law firm of Pierce & Mandell, PC, where his practice is concentrated in the areas of health, business, and non-profit law.
Bill has over 30 years of experience representing local and national health care systems, hospitals, physician organizations, physicians and other health and dental professionals, medical societies, and biotech start-ups on all aspects of health and business law, including health reform driven initiatives such as ACOs, bundled payment initiatives and co-management arrangements, merger and acquisition transactions, medical staff and patient care matters, contracts, and legal compliance.
Bill is a 1982 graduate Cum Laude of Brandeis University, and he received his juris doctor from Boston College Law School in 1986. Prior to the formation of Pierce & Mandell, P.C. in 1995, he practiced health and business law at two large law firms and served at the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the Massachusetts Attorney General's office.
He is the author of several works on health law and legal compliance, including the national publication Managing Relationships with Industry A Physician’s Compliance Manual (Academic Press/Elsevier, 2008) the Chapter on “Physicians” from the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Law Manual (MCLE 2019) and Making Sense of the Stark Law: Compliance for the Medical Practice, published by the Massachusetts Medical Society.
Bill has served as the co-chair the Boston Bar Association Health Law Section and is a frequent panelist and speaker in continuing education programs for the bar and medical professions. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association.
He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Suffolk University Law School.
His volunteer board service and associations have included, the Advisory Board of the Owen M. Kupferschmid Holocaust/Human Rights Project of Boston College Law School; the Board of Trustees, Temple Sinai, Sharon, Massachusetts; and, The Advent School, Boston, Massachusetts.
Bill is the President of the Eddie & Alyce Mandell Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., which awards annual college scholarships to deserving Boston Public School graduates through uAspire, a national non-profit whose mission is to ensure that all young people have the financial information and resources necessary to find an affordable path to and through college.
Bill has been listed as a "Massachusetts Super Lawyer" in health law by Boston Magazine and New England Super Lawyers for over the past 10 years. He is also named in the latest edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the practice area of Health Care Law.
