School Counselor, John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science
Valduvino Gonçalves, a dedicated School Counselor at his alma mater, the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science, is a product of the Boston Public Schools. A passionate advocate for social justice, Valduvino’s commitment lies in his work with students, helping them connect with opportunities such as jobs, mental health resources, college access, and scholarships. As a school guidance counselor, he ensures students are on track to graduate and serves as a valuable resource, in-school support, and mentor for all his students.
Beyond his school responsibilities, Valduvino actively mentors aspiring homegrown teachers in the High School to Teaching Program, a Boston Public Schools initiative that nurtures and inspires individuals to pursue a career in education. He has also been a board member at U-Aspire since 2018, a local nonprofit dedicated to improving the economic mobility of underrepresented students by providing financial solutions for diverse postsecondary pathways. Valduvino’s previous board role at the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI) was as Board Vice-President.
Valduvino’s personal life is marked by his love for his family. He is a father to daughter, Zára Isabella and a son named Zuri Imanuel. These children have profoundly impacted his perspective and worldview, guiding his work with students and families. Currently residing in Roxbury, Valduvino is committed to enhancing his community through social justice advocacy, community organizing, and education.
Valduvino’s educational background includes an undergraduate degree in Human Services from Northeastern University and a Master’s degree in Education with a specialization in School Counseling from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
